Terror Scare Leaves Students Injured

There was panic at Moi University early Wednesday morning as what is now said to be an electric fault in the students’ hostels caused a scare prompting many to scamper for safety.

An estimated 20 students got injuries during the dawn commotion at Hostel D of the institution’s main campus.

Communication from the administration confirmed the incident saying that the incident occurred due to tapping of electricity by students from one room to another, causing an explosion in the process.

Students in the neighboring Hostels who were not aware of the electric fault, thought they had been attacked after one student shouted, “Al-Shabaab”, causing panic among the rest of the students. The students jumped through the windows to save their lives.

The injured students were taken to Moi Referral Hospital while those with minor injuries were treated in the university’s dispensary then discharged.
